!!! Due to an almost-immediate fill-up of our "Bluejeans & Flashlights" tour WE HAVE ADDED A SECOND TOUR, STARTING AT 9:00. Register promptly for this new tour, as its size is also strictly limited. We will still hold a "traditional" tour -- now postponed to 2011-- focusing on the performance area, history and grand public areas.
Join us for an unusual look at Philadelphia's great Academy of Music building. Production Manager Greg Buch has authorized a “Bluejeans and flashlights” tour of parts of the Academy that are not usually open to the public. We will tour restored areas as well as basement and back stage areas in this building.
The 153-year-old Academy of Music is the oldest known continuously operating opera house in the United States. The building, constructed in 1857, was built using solid brick load bearing walls and timber framed floors and roof.
Please do not sign up if you have limited mobility, as we really will be using narrow stairs and backstage corridors. Bring your own flashlight!
Due to its special nature, this tour must be strictly limited to 20 people. Registration is on-line only via the link below.
After the second tour ends at 11:30, members may get together for “lunch on your own” at any of several local restaurants.
Please note: In 2011 the Club will host a traditional general tour of the Academy of Music -- focusing on the performance area, history and grand public areas. This second tour will be of broad interest and appropriate for everybody.
