Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Real-time Video –
Fighting Insurgents in Afghanistan and Iraq
John Kelleher, IS&GS Security group, Lockheed Martin

Predator droneWe will be privileged to have John Kelleher of Lockheed Martin present a technical view of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) -- critical components of modern warfare in Iraq and Afghanistan. In operation, various sensors and formats are used which incorporate industry-leading commercial broadcast technologies to capture terabytes of video data. The vast amounts of video information gathered in this way then need to be collected, archived, searched, and analyzed in order to provide rich operational knowledge and actionable intelligence.

John Kelleher, of the IS&GS Security group in Lockheed Martin, will discuss how these terabytes of video data can be placed under the control of warfighters in Afghanistan and Iraq. John will show how warfighters can identify and extract the intelligence data needed to gain battlefield advantages over insurgents.

John's career spans over 30 years and has included employers such as the Bechtel Power Corporation, General Electric, Martin Marietta, Lockheed Martin, The Vanguard Group Inc, and Vanguard Investments Australia Ltd. In his current role at Lockheed Martin, he is the Capture Manager for Full Motion Video (FMV) Processing Exploitation and Dissemination (PED). For the last 20 years John’s focus has been in information technology and he has worked in systems development organizations that have provided corporate wide technology projects, project management for scientific software systems, and upgrades to existing systems stretching across both classified government and financial services markets.
