U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer Speaks at the National Constitution Center
Join fellow alums for this rare opportunity to hear a Supreme Court Justice speak at the National Constitution Center on October 19. Stephen Breyer will be speaking on “Making Our Democracy Work,” which is the title of his new book. He will consider questions that are fundamental to our constitutional system and the future of the Supreme Court. He believes that since the nine members of the Court are not elected, they need to reinforce their institutional legitimacy by pragmatically applying unchanging constitutional values to ever-changing circumstances. The discussion will be facilitated by Adam Liptak, Supreme Court correspondent for the New York Times.
It is important to register. Although the event is free, all attendees must be registered in order to have a seat. The MIT Club will submit its list to the National Constitution Center and those who have signed up will be expected to come. If you sign up and your plans change it is important to notify us.
Those who can arrive early can meet at the Cafe Olé and enjoy a light dinner (soup, salad, sandwich, coffee, pastry) before the presentation. If coming for the presentation only please note that you need to be on time as latecomers may not be allowed in after the presentation has begun.
