CSI in Real Life!

Dr. Walter Hofman, Coroner, Montgomery County, PA

CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) shows are currently some of the most popular TV shows, but does their portrayal of forensic science match reality? Join fellow alums for an insightful evening with Dr. Walter Hofman, an internationally known and highly-respected forensic pathologist. He will talk about the currently available forensic science tools and just how reliable they are. As he compares them to their use in TV shows he will also comment on how the TV shows have affected our current beliefs and trends both inside the courtroom and out. He will include some of his own interesting and sometimes humorous cases. Not only is he an excellent scientist, he is also an engaging speaker.
Dr. Hofman is the Coroner of Montgomery County, PA and the first board-certified forensic pathologist ever to hold the post. He graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel, Switzerland, and completed his residency in hospital pathology at the Boston University and Harvard Medical School Hospitals. He is board-certified in Anatomic, Clinical and Forensic Pathology. Dr. Hofman has over forty years of experience in Forensic Pathology and Forensic Sciences and is accepted by local, national and international courts as an Expert Witness for both Prosecution and Defense in Criminal cases and Plaintiff and Defense in Civil Litigation. He has personally performed in excess of 11,000 autopsies, examined over 16,000 bodies and issued more than 17,000 death certificates. (Photos courtesy of Dr. Hofman and Embassy Suites.)
