Reaction to the MIT Tour

Jim Gassaway, organizer for the event reports:

On July 10, 2004, sixty-five MIT alums, spouses, guests and children enjoyed a tour of the National Constitution Center.

At the Center, we enjoyed “Freedom Rising,” a state of-the-art 360° multimedia presentation showing the major themes of the Constitution. (The interactive Constitution allows for in-depth exploration of sections of the historical document.) We walked among life-size statues of delegates present at the signing of the Constitution in 1787. We took pictures of our children and grandchildren talking to the 6’4” George Washington and the short 30-year-old Alexander Hamilton and Governor Morris, 6’2” with a crudely crafted peg leg. We could sit at a senator’s desk using interactive equipment to pass legislation and donned judicial robes and ruled on a case as a member of the Supreme Court. We had the opportunity to take the Presidential Oath of Office with the help of blue-screen technology

After the tour, some 25 of us enjoyed lunch in the Delegates’ Restaurant while others visited the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.

Wharton Reception a Success

About 15 alumni/ae came to Wharton to learn about the school, the admissions process, and getting an MBA. But that was far from all! The impromptu networking session that came afterward was great with us meeting each other and making new contacts. People were impressed with the direction the club is taking with events like these, and the Board is set to bring you more. Stay tuned!

New Online Newsletter

As part of our ongoing effort to serve local alumni/ae better, the MIT Club has instituted a monthly email newsletter to keep you better informed while streamlining the communications you receive from the Club. This online newsletter will be sent out generally during the first week of the month. Instead of sending you email announcements on an ad hoc basis, the Club will send you a regular email message that contains all of the information you need for the coming month and beyond. This is to reduce the volume of email you receive from the Club. Please note that events will only be listed here and on the “News and Events” section of the Club website, www.mitdv.org. The eLounge will no longer be used for this purpose.

Currently there are four sections of this newsletter: the summary to give you a quick overview of what’s contained in the newsletter, the Club Events section detailing what events the Club sponsors, the FYI Events section that describes events of interest or value to Club members, and the Announcements sections with information relevant to the Club.

Please take the time to give us feedback on this newsletter. If you don’t like something or love it, please let us know.
